About Me

Me and my fellow trail warriors, Anwesha and Sayandeep, off to the Narrows in Zion

I’m a computational biophysicist/chemist (the boundary’s a bit blurry) with a focus on studying the dynamics of biomolecules like proteins, DNA, RNA, and some more (everything that isn’t static).

I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemistry from the University of Calcutta (Kolkata), India, and completed my Ph.D. at the Bose Institute, also in Kolkata. After that, I moved to the University of California Riverside, USA, where I worked as a postdoctoral researcher with Prof. Giulia Palermo.

At the heart of my research is simulating biomolecular systems through a computational lens. I watch what they’re up to, atom by atom, in motion — say, proteins in their native cellular soup. It’s like peeking into nature’s engine room, frame by frame. Pretty interesting, huh?

As I mentioned earlier, most of the time, I watch molecules jiggle and wiggle and try to make sense of it. But it’s not as complicated as it sounds. To tackle complexity, we simplify. And in simplicity, we find patterns – little stories that nature weaves into every breath of life.

Outside of my research, I stumble upon questions through reading, conversing, or observing social trends. Out of sheer curiosity, I sometimes follow these threads, trying to explore the shadows with a bit of light.

And that’s what led to CuPod — The Curiosity Pod — a space for some of those musings to take shape.
